Canada Facts

Population: 30,301,200 (1998)
Area: 9,970,610 square kilometers
Capital City: Ottawa, Ontario

Although Canada is the world's second-largest country, it ranks only 28th in population size. Its 30 million people yield a population density of approximately three persons per square kilometre!

Canada has developed a highly sophisticated transportation system, including 726 certified airports, to support it's population. It has more kilometres of road and railway track per person than most other countries. Most centres are near modern airports with links to international air services.

About 860 licensed domestic air carriers provide scheduled and charter services throughout the country.

Air transportation is especially important in Canada's northern communities. Many are inaccessible by other means of transportation and depend on air services for basic supplies.
